14 grades, 3 different schools but
There is one dream.
To walk across the stage for the
Final time, shake hands with the staff
And declare myself done with high school.
The feeling of joy rushes you like a mother
Lion getting food for her young.
Dealing with classes, learning new techniques
That has no impact on your life. Why be here all
Day for classes not needed.
All the lies that are fed to us over and over again.
You don’t really love us, you
would love to be rid of us.
You say you want what’s best for us,
but when we come
Back you don’t even notice us.
We are not people.
We are just a check.
A check waiting to be cashed
For school funding.
There is no other way to put it,
These feelings here, are not fake.
Its like Coca-Cola,
The real thing. No doubting.
You have covered up lies
with sweet words of encouragement.
And we eat it.
We eat these lies the way
maggots eat at deceased caucuses.
Now as the doors open up for us to leave,
I have finally Noticed it.
I’m thankful to be in a place
where I can get a decent education,
meet wonderful people and get life
Changing opportunities.
Now as the door opens up for us
To leave, we hear things the previous class
heard and the classes behind us will hear them also.
It’s a process that constantly gets repeated.
A corrupt system.

Welcome to the Kenwood poetry blog!
This blog showcases the original poetry of some of Kenwood Academy High School's Senior Class.
The diversity of the student body is mirrored in the diversity of the poetry; some poems are lighthearted and others are quite personal and serious. While the poems incorporate a variety of styles and themes, they are all inspired by the poetry that we've studied in class.
