Welcome to the Kenwood poetry blog!

This blog showcases the original poetry of some of Kenwood Academy High School's Senior Class.

The diversity of the student body is mirrored in the diversity of the poetry; some poems are lighthearted and others are quite personal and serious. While the poems incorporate a variety of styles and themes, they are all inspired by the poetry that we've studied in class.

God Bless the American Hustler

God Bless the American Hustler
for they are dedicated, and most unappreciated.
The hustler lives in a world of nickels and dimes
were every dollar counts and amounts
to new hopes and dreams that cant be seen on a t.v. screen
were every hustler wants better then what they have,
but is always glad and brags about what they had.

God Bless the American Hustler
for when times get hard and they need help,
they rely only on themselves, but they do it
because they know that God is within their flesh.
So every time before they go face the world
they recite the hustler’s prayer,
Ar’t father who ar’t in heaven,
Let me keep my name
Dear Lord I know that there is something better out here
for me that I am searching for
please keep me under your watchful eye as I walk through darkness
and guide me to your everlasting light of salvation.
And if this is the last time I get to say this prayer,
then please don’t let it be in vain.
In thyness the kingdom power and glory are yours now and forever
Amen

God Bless the American Hustler
for a hustler is more than someone who stands on corners
and walks on streets, a hustler is someone who needs to feed
and needs to eat
A hustler is a conscience business man who’s always thinking about
his next move
You see a hustler is a man or woman who owns their own barber shop
or hair salon, as well as someone who sells dope in their neighborhood
A hustler is a business man who is trying to push his new product to
a major corporation as well as a man robbing people for a living
A hustler is a telemarketer or bill collector who calls your house everyday
as well as a prostitute selling her body for money.
God bless the American Hustler
For the day will come when your customers will not want what your
selling anymore, the food in your refrigerator will be gone, and all you money
will be sent. But, until that day comes, let’s make this money!

I like the repetion because it showed the importance of "God Bless the american Hustler."

I agree with what a hustler is because most people think its just a drug dealer.

There was a lot of imagery and the poem overall was very creative.
